PGT Develops First R-5 Impact-Resistant Window Line

Highly Insulating Windows Provide Superior Energy Efficiency and Noise Reduction
N. Venice, FL– April 21, 2010 – PGT Industries (NASDAQ: PGTI), one of the nation's leading providers of custom windows and doors, and the nation’s leading supplier of residential impactresistant windows and doors, today announced the development of the first impact-resistant windows having a U-factor of less than 0.22, thus satisfying the requirements of the Department of Energy (DOE) R-5 program. As a result, these windows will provide the highest levels of energy efficiency and noise reduction found in the impact-resistant market. They will be ideal for those customers who desire hurricane protection, security, noise reduction and energy efficiency in one high performance package. PGT will be able to participate in the R-5 program on selected vinyl-framed awning, casement and fixed lite window styles.

"The core of our business is innovation, which is what first put us on the map as the market leader for impact-resistant windows and doors. The development of an R-5 window line is the result of our commitment to provide new, cutting-edge technologies that meet and exceed evolving customer needs," said Debbie LaPinska, PGT Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Today's residential and commercial markets demand energy efficiency, lower costs, noise reduction and structural integrity, and we are the first to provide this in one complete window package."

This development enables PGT to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) R-5 Windows Volume Purchase Program, which is designed to save energy, reduce the costs of R-5 windows, increase market demand for energy-efficient products and help create jobs. PGT will have the opportunity to be listed as a DOE preferred vendor for associations, K-12 schools, local/state agencies, federal government, builders/contractors, non-profits and universities.

PGT will unveil more details on its new R-5 window line and participation in the DOE's R-5 Windows Volume Purchase program in the coming weeks.
